PLOT SUMMARY
In this graphic novel, book number two of Lunch Lady series,
Lunch Lady battles against the librarians. Mrs. Page, the librarian and her
league are planning on destroying all the video games that are about to be
released. The lunch lady teams of with Dee, Terrance and Hector, the Breakfast
Bunch from the first book, to stop the librarian’s plans.
CRITICAL ANALYSIS
This is a popular book series in my classroom of third
graders, so that is why I feel like it is appropriate for that age. It is an excellent
graphic novel for a read along, since it is simple to follow. The illustration of the book
is simple, yet grabs the reader’s attention. The color scheme in this book are
rather dull including only black, white, grey, and different yellow but it does
make the dialogue in the book more noticeable. Personally, I believe this would
be a great series to introduce students to the genre of graphic novels. The
book is easy to read and follow along. I enjoy the simplicity of the storyline
and the graphics. I can see this will be a great alternative for students who
are reluctant readers. Silly, fun, and action-packed is how I would describe
the book.

Choices
“
The black-and-white pen-and-ink illustrations have splashes of yellow in nearly
every panel. The clean layout, featuring lots of open space, is well suited for
the intended audience. Terrence, Hector, and Dee become more developed in this
second installment in the series, especially Dee, who asserts herself as the
strong-willed leader of the group. The winking references to book fairs,
read-a-thon enrollment, and media specialists fit well with the story line.
With its appealing mix of action and humor, this clever, entertaining addition
to the series should have wide appeal”- SCHOOL LIBRARY JOURNAL
